Know the feeling that something just isn’t right? That shoulder ache that won’t go away so you ice it and move on…the hives that pop up for seemingly no reason at all…the chronic fatigue and weight gain when you are working out, eating healthy and should look like a model…the day you realize how fine the line is between loosing it completely and staying on the somewhat sane side of life??? You know you need help but don’t take the time to get it and pray the problem goes away. Or, you do make an appointment to see a health professional and you get some vague response like, it must be a virus or stress. Well, sure but what’s the CAUSE of the virus or stress or whatever because if we don’t know the cause, how can we prevent it in the future??
Women are entitled to answers and to get answers we must be our own health advocates. If you suspect something is out of whack with your body, then something probably is. Health specialists are critically important in this age of advanced medicine but before you get to the right specialist, you need someone to take a look at the BIG picture of YOU – your body, your mind and the general state of your life and life style. When something is out of whack there will be symptoms and it’s important to know what causes the symptoms so the course of treatment options can be discussed. Women want to be a part of this discussion and today there are some wonderful places like the Center for Integrative Medicine at Stamford Hospital that take insurance (wow!) and work in conjunction with primary care physicians to understand the mental, physical and lifestyle state of a woman to get to the bottom of what ails her.
So ladies…Nike has it right when they say, Just Do It. Get on your own To Do list when something is out of whack and find out early what is up. Keep at it until you get some answers and trust your gut!
